Managed by the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum displays collections of plants either native to or suited to the state's cold northern climate. Tours of the 1,000 acre area can be done by guided tram or bus tour, or on foot over more than 12 miles of walking paths and hiking trails also open for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. It is situated on the southern side of Lake Minnewashta, about 24 miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis.
Grounds open daily dawn - dusk. Visitor center open Nov – Apr: Mon. – Sat. 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Sun. 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; May – Oct: Mon. – Sat. 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Sun. 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Thurs. hours vary, check website for details.
Adults $7; Children 15 and under are free.
